Thanksgiving

In honor of Thanksgiving, here is a copy of the first Thanksgiving Proclamation by George Washington:

"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789."

And When Abraham Lincoln signed the original Thanksgiving Proclamation, he stated,

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.
"But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the Gracious Hand which reserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
"It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens."

Still no water! The guy came yesterday to hook up the pump, but he didn't finish, he said he was "losing daylight" Hello! You should have come before 3:00 or whatever time it was! I am getting a little ornery about the whole thing. Anyways, hopefully tonight it will be done. I have run out of socks so I really need to do laundry! The guy also told me that they accidentally cut our phone line! Ugh! We don't have a land line, but we were planning on getting one next year, and I don't want to pay to get that fixed. I am pretty sure they are planning on fixing it, so that isn't too bad. They also told me that they are going to unhook our air conditioner because the breaker box is full, so before next summer I am going to have to get an electrician to do that. If anyone knows someone let me know, I had nothing but a bad experience with the last electrician we hired!
I guess that is it, I just needed to vent a little. Hope everyone has a great day!

Well...

just got the bad news :( We need a new well. It is very discouraging, we just spent a lot to get new siding and concrete, and now we need a new well. It sucks. Oh well I guess, what else can we do? They said they think they can get it in by the end of the week, which is good. He got the well we have working enough so we can use the bathroom, but that is it, we have to shower at my moms. And it really sucks because all of the dishes are in the dishwasher. Looks like I am going to have to hand wash some tonight, yuck! I have doing dishes. Well, I had better get back to work. Saturday we FINALLY got some landscaping done. We planted at our corner around the address sign, and we started to put up a couple of rows of arbs between our house and the neighbors, we only got 4 planted, it takes a lot longer than I expected! We still have 8 more to plant, and that is only like 1/3 of the row I wanted to do. I don't think we will finish that this year!
Sunday was disasterous! I woke up at 7:00 because of some noise, it wasn't a normal noise, and it kept going and going! So I woke up Joel, he didn't seem to care, so I ran to the basement to make sure the sump pump wasn't overflowing or anything, it was dry so I went to the bathroom, then I went to wash my hands and no water! I went to Joel and told him we had no water, so he got out of bed. Apparently the noise was the water pump or something, but there was no pressure. We tried to restart it a couple time, but no luck. Of course, nobody is open on Sunday, so we had to go the whole day with no water! I just hope it isn't anything too expensive, they are supposed to come this morning to check it out, I am so eager to find out what is going on! Also Sunday the spruce I planted on Saturday tipped over :( The poor thing! I guess I didn't plant it very good. So I had to go and put it back up. I felt bad working on Sunday, but you shouldn't not help a person who is hurt on a Sunday, so I guess it is ok. Plant=person right?
Well, this has gotten way to long, so I had better get going, and stop boring everyone! Hope everyone else had a great weekend!
